  • BREAKING: Trudeau Just Warned Americans Of Retaliatory Measures After Meeting With Trump (VIDEO)

    Donald Trump, Economy, News, Politics

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday, once removed from the oppressive presence of Donald Trump at the G7 Summit in Quebec, made clear that his government and his country intend to match Trump’s isolationist policies measure for measure, imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum that would put the trade deficit back in balance, or at least back to simply the advantage that the United States previously already had before Trump’s decision to impose his own tariffs.

Contrary to what Trump continues to claim, America has a trade surplus with Canada and historically has enjoyed a friendship with our neighbors to the north generally unseen among other neighboring countries.

Because his actions have threatened that balance of power, Trudeau felt he had no choice but to announce the imposition of Canadian tariffs beginning July 1:

“It would be with regret, but it would be with absolute certainty and firmness that we move forward with retaliatory measures on July first, applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that the Americans have unjustly applied to us. I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will do, because Canadians, we’re polite, we’re reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around.”

This is exactly the kind of response that Trump not only least expects, but which will piss him off the most. As I have opined in other articles on this site, Trump’s vision of trade and of “deals” in general is that there is no such thing as mutual benefit — if it’s good for the United States, it must be at the expense of someone else, and if it’s good for someone else, there’s no way it could be good for the United States.

Rip someone off or BE ripped off is how Trump sees the whole world. Let’s hope he’s gone from office before he is able to do too much more — or possibly permanent — damage to the United States of America.
