The G7 Summit has started today, and Donald Trump just couldn’t resist the urge to piss everybody off before it even began.
Late last night, Trump decided to celebrate the eve of the summit by criticizing multiple world leaders on Twitter. On his favorite announcement platform, Trump whined about trade. He wrote:
“Why isn’t the European Union and Canada informing the public that for years they have used massive Trade Tariffs and non-monetary Trade Barriers against the U.S. Totally unfair to our farmers, workers & companies?” Take down your tariffs & barriers or we will more than match you!”
Not exactly the way someone with a reasonable head on their shoulders would want to preface a major event like the G7 Summit. But Trump was on a role of ruining things, which he had started earlier in the evening when he accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of being “indignant.” Here’s that tweet:
He also responded to French President Emmanuel Macron, who sent out a strong statement about America’s new “isolated” attitude under Trump and pointed out how it was going to hurt more than help the country:
Trudeau and Macron had also stated during a joint presser on Thursday that Trump’s new tariffs were “ridiculous.” They said:
“This is ridiculous to think they could be a threat to national security. In fact, we are the closest friends the United States has had in quite some time.”
This was Trump’s response, which is definitely going to work against the United States at the G7 Summit:
“Please tell Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron that they are charging the U.S. massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers. The EU trade surplus with the U.S. is $151 Billion, and Canada keeps our farmers and others out. Look forward to seeing them tomorrow.”
Oh boy. Much like voters, the only thing Donald Trump is good at is uniting people against him. The summit has barely begun, and it looks like Trump has already f*cked everything up.
